Kim Jong-un regards future meeting with Putin as extremely important, aims for maximum development of relations with Russia - Matviyenko

PYONGYANG. Sept 10 (Interfax) - The North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is set to develop relations with Russia as broadly as possible and considers its role in resolving the situation on the Korean peninsula as extremely important, Federation Council speaker Valentina Matviyenko said.

"He said: to me, meeting with the Russian president is extremely important, we must discuss our cooperation strategy and prospects bilaterally, and of course, I would like to discuss with him a whole host of important, serious international issues. He stressed that Russia plays an extremely important role in the political-diplomatic settlement of Korean peninsula's nuclear problem, that our approaches and those of the North Korean head of state coincide," Matviyenko told reporters.

Kim said to her that he was keen "on maximum development, expansion of the cooperation with Russia in the economic, humanitarian, political and other spheres."

"This ran as a red thread throughout our meeting," she said.
