FSB launches criminal probe against Ivanovo region resident who fails to report case of abetting terrorists

VORONEZH. Sept 14 (Interfax) - Investigators have filed a criminal case against a young man from the Ivanovo region who knew that one of his online friends had connections with terrorists but failed to report, the Federal Security Service's (FSB) regional branch said.

Investigators believe that a young man born in 1997 learned from one of his online friends when socializing on a social networking site that the friend was part of an illegal armed unit operating in Iraq and Syria. However, the young man failed to report to the case, the FSB Ivanovo department said in a statement.

The criminal case against the resident of Ivanovo was opened on suspicion of a failure to report a crime, it said.

Penalties under this Criminal Code article may include a fine, a period of forced labor or up to one year in jail, the agency said.
