SOCHI. Sept 17 (Interfax) - Heavy weaponry and radical militants, including members of Jabhat al-Nusra (banned in Russia), must be removed from the demilitarized area in Idlib by October 10, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
"Heavy weaponry, including tanks, multiple rocket launchers, and all opposition groups must be withdrawn from this area by October 10, 2018, in line with the Turkish president's proposal," Putin said following his meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday.
The sides decided to create "a demilitarized area 15-20 kilometers deep [along the contact line between the armed opposition and government forces] by October 15 of this year, with radical militants, including Jabhat al-Nusra militants, removed from there," Putin said.
It was proposed that Turkish mobile patrol units and Russian military police units patrol the demilitarized area, he said.
