Ukraine declares Hungarian consul in Transcarpathia persona non grata - foreign ministry

KYIV. Oct 4 (Interfax) - Ukraine has handed a note to Hungarian Ambassador in Kyiv Erno Keskeny declaring the Hungarian consul in Berehove, the Zakarpattia (Transcarpathia) region of Ukraine, persona non grata and demanding that he leave Ukraine within 72 hours.

Keskeny has been informed that, "according to Article 23 of the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, the consul of the Hungarian Consulate in the town of Berehove must leave Ukrainian territory within the next 72 hours for activities inconsistent with status of a consular official," the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.

"We expect the Hungarian side to refrain in the future from any unfriendly steps toward Ukraine, and its officials from violating Ukrainian law," the ministry said.
