MOSCOW. Oct 4 (Interfax) - The recent accusations against the GRU, Russia's military intelligence agency, is an attempt to delegitimize Russia in order to justify the use of illegitimate methods against it later, according to Federation Council Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Konstantin Kosachyov.
"This is supposed to create in the audience a strong association between Russia and inhumane weapons and its continuous (though continually exposed for some reason) interference in the affairs of Western democracies. And eventually to delegitimize Russia itself, against which, an 'illegitimate' [Russia], any illegitimate means and methods are equally permissible and good," Kosachyov wrote on his Facebook page on Thursday.
The latest news from the Netherlands "again features the GRU" because "this abbreviation is being made into the modern analogue of the KGB, which was used as a bogeyman in the West during the Cold War," he wrote.
"Why it is that hacker and other cyber attacks in particular were chosen as the key subject is not difficult to comprehend, either: since proving a source of such attacks and someone's involvement in them is not possible, one can easily pin the blame on anyone," Kosachyov wrote.
As for the GRU, "we'll be hearing a lot of new and exciting things in the near future," he wrote.
