MOSCOW. Oct 4 (Interfax) - Indian Chief of Army Staff Bipin Rawat has asked for support with buying new weapons and Indian army modernization at a meeting with the Russian Armed Forces' Chief of General Staff Valery Gerasimov on Thursday.
The Indian army is undergoing modernization and feeling the need to buy new weapon systems and introduce new technologies, and we are hoping to receive Russian support in this, Rawat said.
He also thanked for the opportunity during his visit to Russia to inspect Armed Forces including ground troops.
The Indian delegation's visit to Russia strengthens ties between the two countries and their armed forces, he said. Russia and India are bound by shared history, Russia has always stood by India in difficult times, so there is no reason not to take our relations to the next, higher level, the Indian military chief said.
