MOGILEV. Oct 12 (Interfax) - Russian Federation Council speaker Valentina Matviyenko has called on Belarus to support Russia's initiative to recognize the victory over Nazism in WWII part of the global heritage of mankind.
"The Federation Council is now promoting the idea of recognizing the victory over Nazism in WWII as the global heritage of mankind and the monuments to fighters against Nazism in all countries as global memorials. We are now working on a relevant resolution, which we will present at the UN. I want to propose that Belarus co-author this initiative, join our initiative," Matviyenko said at a plenary session of the Russian-Belarussian forum regions in Mogilev.
The potential of public and young people's organizations and the regions of the two countries can be used here, she said.
Interaction between Russia and Belarus in the right against glorification of Nazism is an integral part of work on all levels, including the regional one, Matviyenko said.
"For our countries, which suffered the biggest losses in the Great Patriotic War and in the war against fascism for the liberation of Europe, this is a holy cause," she said.
