As country of asylum, U.S. partly responsible for fate of Saudi journalist who disappeared

SOCHI. Oct 18 (Interfax) - The United States is partly responsible for what happened to Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, who was working for a U.S. media outlet and disappeared after visiting the Saudi Consulate General in Istanbul, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

"As far as I know, the journalist who disappeared was living in the U.S. He wasn't living in Russia. He was living in the U.S. And in this regard, the United States bears certain responsibility for what happened to him," Putin said at the Valdai Club on Thursday.

"It just stands to reason. He chose the U.S. as a country of asylum," he said.
