Neutrality key condition of statehood - Moldova's Dodon at meeting with NATO PA leaders

CHISINAU. Oct 19 (Interfax) - Neutrality is a key condition for the preservation and strengthening of Moldova's statehood, President Igor Dodon said at a meeting with NATO Parliamentary Assembly President Rasa Jukneviciene (Lithuania) and Assembly Secretary General David Hobbs (the UK) on Friday.

"Moldova is complying strictly with the constitutional principle of permanent neutrality and building on this basis a balanced policy aimed at maintaining mutually beneficial partnerships with the West and the East. Neutrality is the main condition for the preservation and strengthening of Moldovan statehood," Dodon's press service quoted him as saying.

"This position of the president is supported by a majority of the country's population; it also enjoys understanding and respect among our foreign partners," he said.

"A broad range of aspects of Moldova's domestic and foreign policy, the Transdniestrian settlement process, and regional security issues" were discussed at the meeting, the press service said.

A delegation of the NATO PA is paying a two-day working visit to Moldova. The delegation has met with the parliament speaker, the prime minister, and members of the Moldovan delegation to the NATO PA.
