Capacities of air defense system tested in Crimea

MOSCOW. Nov 2 (Interfax) - Air defense forces have been tested in Crimea, the press service of the Southern Military District told Interfax.

"Crews of Sukhoi Su-24 and Su-30 jets and Mil Mi-8 and Kamov Ka-27 helicopters of the Black Sea Fleet's marine aviation imitated targets that approached air defense crews from various directions," the press service said.

"Crews of S-400 Triumf and Pantsir air defense missile systems detected and performed computer-simulated launches on the imitated targets (without actually firing missiles)," the press service said.

The aircraft flew at supersonic speeds at distances farthest from radar stations, and also performed nab-of-the-earth flights to complicate the mission for air defense forces, it said.

Six planes and four helicopters, including Sukhoi Su-24MR reconnaissance aircraft, Sukhoi Su-24M frontline bombers, Sukhoi Su-30SM multirole fighter jets, and Mil Mi-8 and Kamov Ka-27 helicopters, and S-400 Triumf and Pantsir air defense missile systems of the air force/air defense formation of the Southern Military District took part in the drill.
