CIS Council of Commanders of Border Troops important for security of member states - Jeenbekov

BISHKEK. Nov 14 (Interfax-AVN) - The CIS Council of Commanders of Border Troops is important for guaranteeing border security, Kyrgyz President Sooronbai Jeenbekov said.

Jeenbekov met with participants in the 80th session of the Council, which is being held in Bishkek, the presidential press service said.

"For Kyrgyzstan, issues of border security are among the most important ones in its foreign and domestic policies," he said.

"Relying on common historical roots, the proximity of national interests, and closeness of mentalities, the CIS Council of Commanders of Border Troops has not only preserved, but augmented border traditions, customs, and rituals," Jeenbekov said.

"Certain processes in the global world are shaping challenges and threats capable of undermining tranquility in any CIS country, and there is full understanding among heads of state of the danger of modern risks and a determination to make national borders and the borders of the entire Commonwealth safe," he said.

"Without concerted joint actions, the necessary effect won't be reached in combating international terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking, and organized crime, and the operations of the CIS Council of Commanders of Border Troops offer great opportunities for collective work," Jeenbekov said.
