LUHANSK. Nov 14 (Interfax) - Leonid Pasechnik has been elected the head of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic (LPR) following the election on November 11.
"Leonid Ivanovich Pasechnik has garnered 68.3% or 596,230 votes. [...] A total of 11,338 ballots, or 1.3%, were found invalid or lost. Therefore, Leonid Ivanovich Pasechnik has won the election of the LPR head," Yelena Kravchenko, the chairperson of the LPR Central Elections Commission (CEC), told reporters.
The public movement Peace for the Luhansk Region headed by Pasechnik won 74.12% of votes and 37 seats in the LPR People's Council following the election, she added.
The elections of the head and lawmakers took place in the LPR on November 11. According to LPR CEC, voter turnout was 77%.
International observers from 22 countries noted that the election was well organized and that there were no violations during it.
Pasechnik had previously held the post of the LPR state security minister. In November 2017, he became the self-proclaimed republic's acting head following Igor Plotnitsky's resignation.
Elections of the heads and parliaments of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics took place on November 11. They were called after DPR head Alexander Zakharchenko died in a cafe bombing on August 31. Ukraine and Western countries do not recognize the elections as legitimate. Moscow, for its part, believes the elections do not contradict the Minsk Agreements.
