UFA. Nov 16 (Interfax) - Over 100 Russian children will be rescued from Iraqi jails and brought home, Russian Children's Rights Commissioner Anna Kuznetsova told reporters in Ufa on Friday.
"Over 100 children are currently in Iraqi jails. Half of them will be returned on the first flight, as soon as documents are ready," Kuznetsova said.
However, she was unable to clarify when the children will return.
"Inter-agency proposals regarding the children's return have already been prepared. As soon as there is a relevant order, I believe, the children will be returned immediately. [...] Of course, we want the children to escape the conditions in which they currently find themselves as soon as possible. The conditions are inhumane. We want this nightmare to end for them as soon as possible," she said.
According to Kuznetsova, after their return home, the children will "definitely urgently need qualified and skilled medical assistance and then rehabilitation."
"A great deal of work has been done," every child has been identified, relatives have been found, and new documents have been drawn up, but there are still unresolved issues, as "relatives of some children couldn't be found or do not wish to accommodate them," she said.
