MOSCOW. Nov 16 (Interfax-AVN) - The plenipotentiary representative of Kyrgyzstan, Aman Mambetseitov, has been elected chairman of the Permanent Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).
This happened because Kyrgyzstan is taking over the organization's rotating presidency from Kazakhstan in 2018-2019, according to a statement on the CSTO website.
The decision was adopted unanimously on the basis at a session of the Permanent Council attended by acting General Secretary of the CSTO Valery Semerikov on Friday.
"The plenipotentiary representative of Kazakhstan to CSTO gave Mambetseitov a hammer symbolizing decision-making at the CSTO Permanent Council. Zhanybek Imanaliyev was thanked for his fruitful and constructive work as the chairman of the organization's Permanent Council in 2017-2018," the statement said.
The Permanent Council considered draft statements concerning the formation of a unified security space, the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction in the context of the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1540, and measures to promote mutual trust aimed at promoting peace and global security.
"Work on documents will continue at the next sessions of the CSTO Permanent Council," the statement said.
