Putin, Ukraine's Medvedchuk discuss humanitarian issues in Donbas - Peskov

MOSCOW. Nov 23 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin is communicating with Viktor Medvedchuk, Kyiv's envoy to the humanitarian subgroup of the Trilateral Contact Group, on a number of issues, including prisoner exchanges, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Friday.

"I don't know for certain how often Putin talks to Medvedchuk. I am not aware of the details of these meetings, but I know that in this case, Medvedchuk is acting in line with his functions as the head of the humanitarian subgroup [for Donbas]," Peskov said.

"These occasional prisoner exchanges have taken place thanks to his [Medvedchuk's] efforts, and he has been making every effort to reach an all-for-all swap, but so far it hasn't quite worked out. There are many difficulties along this road," he said.

"This is what he [Medvedchuk] has been working on," Peskov said.

When asked whether Medvedchuk can mediate between the Russian and Ukrainian presidents at this stage of relations between the two countries, Peskov said, "I don't know if it is needed at this point. I don't know if such a mediator is needed."

Putin gave quite detailed answers about Ukrainian president at the press conference in Singapore, Peskov said.
