Chisinau concerned about Sea of Azov situation, strongly condemns any provocations, acts of aggression (Part 2)

CHISINAU. Nov 26 (Interfax) - The Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration has expressed concerns about the situation in the Sea of Azov and stated its support to Ukraine.

"We are deeply concerned about tensions in the Sea of Azov and the Kerch Strait. The Republic of Moldova reiterated its support and recognition of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as its right to use international waters," the ministry said on its Facebook account on Monday.

The ministry said it "resolutely condemns any acts of aggression and provocations undermining regional security."

Moldovan Prime Minister Pavel Filip expressed his solidarity with Ukraine later on Monday.

He told reporters that he is concerned about the incident in the Kerch Strait. "We are really sorry as it is related to regional security and we cannot help but be concerned by it. We support Ukraine," the prime minister said.

"It does not have a direct impact on the Republic of Moldova, but the tense situation cannot isolate us from it. Whether we like it or not, this situation affects not only our country, but the entire region, in general terms," Filip said.

In this context, he mentioned Russia's military presence in Transdniestria. "The Russian army, which has been illegally staying in our territory, is a major problem for us. We don't know what is happening at the ammunition depots [guarded by servicemen of the Russian military task force in the village of Cobasna on the left bank of the Dniester], in what condition they are and that is threatening," the Moldovan prime minister said.
