Ukrainian ship Berdiansk was warned weapons may be used against it, ignored demands to stop - FSB

MOSCOW. Nov 27 (Interfax) - The Federal Security Service (FSB) has warned the crew of the Ukrainian ship Berdiansk that weapons would be used against it if it fails to comply with the demand to stop, and the crew ignored these demands.

"At 8:50 p.m., the Izumrud border guard cruiser warned the Berdiansk armored artillery boat that deadly force would be used against it if it fails to comply with demands to stop (in accordance with the provisions 24, 25 of the Russian government's order No. 80 of February 24, 2010, 'On the approval of the regulations of the use of weapons and combat equipment in the protection of the state border of the Russian Federation, the exclusive economic zone and the coastal shelf of the Russian Federation'). The Berdiansk armored artillery boat ignored the demand to stop," the FSB's public relations center told Interfax.

According to the security service, the Izumrud boat used deadly force at the Berdiansk vessel at coordinated within the territorial sea around 8:55 p.m.

"At 8:58 p.m. the Berdiansk ship heaved aback, the commander of the vessel made contact, said that there are injured people on board and asked for help. At 9:06 p.m. the Izumrud border guard cruiser detained the Berdiansk armored artillery boat, collected its seven crewmembers, included three injured, who were given first aid; primary damage control actions were taken to save the Ukrainian Navy's ship," it said.
