Kyiv sets up defense council

KYIV. Nov 27 (Interfax) - The declaration of martial law in some Ukrainian regions will have no effect on life in the capital, according to Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko.

"Just like other regions, the capital has set up a city defense council. Our primary objectives are to ensure smooth functioning in Kyiv and to provide the assistance required of us," the press service of the Kyiv City State Administration quoted Klitschko as saying on Tuesday.

Life in Kyiv is going on as usual, the mayor said. "Yet we realize there may be many provocations and various kinds of events. We are analyzing diverse scenarios. City police are operating in an intensive regime," he said.
