MOSCOW. Nov 27 (Interfax-AVN) - The Navy's strategic nuclear forces accomplished a number of important missions and proved their combat readiness in 2018, Russian Northern Fleet Commander Adm. Nikolai Yevmenov said on Tuesday.
"Submarine crews continued to explore new areas, including routes under the ice of the Arctic Ocean," the fleet's press service quoted Yevmenov as saying.
"The strategic naval nuclear forces, which constitute the core of the Northern Fleet, once again demonstrated their readiness to accomplish missions in the 2018 training season," he said.
"For instance, the crew of the Tula strategic submarine successfully fired a Sineva intercontinental ballistic missile from the designated area in the Barents Sea at the Kura range in Kamchatka during a check of the strategic nuclear forces supervised by the Russian Supreme Commander-in-Chief, President Vladimir Putin," he said.
"For the first time in history, the crew of the Yury Dolgoruky strategic submarine fired a salvo of four Bulava intercontinental ballistic missiles from a Borei-class submarine," Yevmenov said.
The crew of the Severodvinsk missile submarine successfully fired missiles at coastal targets from a submerged position in the White Sea, he said.
