New long-range interceptor may start replacing MiG-31 in mid-2020s - MiG head

MOSCOW. Nov 28 (Interfax-AVN) - The delivery of the new long-range interceptor aircraft to the Russian forces may begin in the middle of the 2020s, MiG Corporation head Ilya Tarasenko told Interfax on Wednesday.

"We are designing a long-range interceptor aircraft, which will replace MiG-31. Once the Defense Ministry places this order, we are ready to start building and delivering the aircraft as early as in the middle of the 2020s. The plane will be brand new from the technological angle. The work will be synchronized with the expiry of the service life of MiG-31 long-range interceptors," Tarasenko said.

"The PAKDP [prospective long-range interceptor aircraft] project will be based on advanced production technologies and materials. We are currently passing through the R&D stage," Tarasenko said.
