West could help return of Syrian refugees by lifting sanctions against Damascus - Syrian ambassador to UN

ASTANA. Nov 29 (Interfax) - The West could help the return of Syrian refugees by lifting sanctions against Damascus, according to Syrian Ambassador to the United Nations Bashar al-Jaafari.

"The West does not seek the return of refugees to the home country. We have always said that if the West really wants to help us and the countries where the refugees are staying it should lift the sanctions above all," al-Jaafari said at a press conference after the 11th round of the Syria talks in Astana.

"I can't say that they are keen on the return of refugees. Sanctions against the country should be lifted so that people could go back to work and normal life and the country could develop and prosper," he said.
