VLADIVOSTOK. Nov 29 (Interfax) - The Gromky corvette, which is due to join the Pacific Fleet by the end of this year, has fired artillery at an airborne target as part of state trials in the Sea of Japan, the Pacific Fleet said in a statement on Thursday.
"In order to check the effectiveness of the new corvette's weapons, the R-79 missile boat fired a Termit cruise missile from the training range in the Peter the Great Bay to imitate an enemy attack," the statement said.
The corvette detected the airborne target, which was then locked in on and hit by the boat's 100mm A-190 universal artillery system and AK-630 six-barrel automatic artillery gun.
As many as ten warships and support vessels, as well as anti-submarine warfare planes of the Pacific Fleet, provided support.
Earlier, the Gromky fired its first Uran cruise missile at a surface target.
The corvette was moved to Vladivostok from the Amur Shipbuilding Plant in late August for the final stage of trials.
This is the second Project 20380 corvette built for the Pacific Fleet under the rearmament program. It has a length of 104.5 meters, a width of 13 meters, a full displacement of 2,200 tonnes, and a top speed of 27 knots.
