MOSCOW. Nov 29 (Interfax-AVN) - The MiG Corporation is building two prototypes of the new combat training plane MiG-UTS, Director General Ilya Tarasenko told Interfax on Wednesday.
"Right now, we are building the bench and actively preparing WCD (working construction documentation); we are also building two plane prototypes," Tarasenko said.
"I'll lift the veil of secrecy a bit for you: we plan to present a flying prototype of the future combat training plane to our potential clients at the end of this year," he said.
In late 2017, MiG began research-and-development work on the MiG-UTS for training tactical aviation pilots, Tarasenko said.
"This is not a new area of research for us," he said.
The corporation took part in the design of the MiG-AT, a training plane for the Russian Air Force, in the early 2000s, he said.
"The project yielded a unique turbo-jet combat training plane, which was ahead of its time. Unfortunately, for several reasons, the project was halted when it was practically finished. In designing the new combat training plane today, we are actively using the scientific-and-technical groundwork laid over the years of work on the MiG-AT," Tarasenko said.
