ASTANA. Nov 29 (Interfax) - The information on people held in detention provided by the Syrian government and the opposition needs to be thoroughly verified, Russian Special Presidential Representative for Syria Alexander Lavrentyev said.
"The Syrians have presented lists of 16,000 people who are currently being held by the opposition. The opposition says that according to its information, about 15,000 people are being illegally held by the Syrian authorities," Lavrentyev said at a press conference following Syria settlement consultations in Astana.
"Of course, all of this requires very detailed and meticulous examination. A working group is doing that now," he said.
"The level of trust between the conflicting parties is very low at this point," Lavrentyev said.
"And, of course, we would like it to be higher, because there have been complaints from both sides on issues that get discussed, such as the exchange of prisoners held in detention," he said.
