Criminal case opened in Kabardino-Balkaria after attack on law enforcement - Investigative Committee

MOSCOW. Nov 29 (Interfax) - The three gunmen who opened fire at security and police officers in Kabardino-Balkaria have been eliminated, the Investigative Committee's spokesperson Svetlana Petrenko told Interfax on Thursday.

"According to investigators, officers from the local branch of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) and the Interior Ministry's Center E for the North Caucasus Federal District, after receiving a tip, attempted to stop a VAZ-2107 vehicle for a document check in the Maisky district of the Kabardino-Balkaria Republic. Three people inside the vehicle ignored the law enforcement officers' legitimate orders and opened fire with an assault rifle. The assailants were eliminated," Petrenko said.

None of the officers was injured, she said.

"The republic's investigative bodies have launched a criminal inquiry into illegal circulation of firearms and assaulting a law enforcement officer (Article 317 and Part 2 of Article 222 of the Russian Criminal Code)," Petrenko said.
