Lives of Russian Guard members injured in Krasnodar out of danger, attacker killed - agency

MOSCOW. Nov 30 (Interfax) - The two Russian Guard employees were injured in a shootout in Krasnodar on Thursday, the government agency said.

"The employees were on duty, when an unknown man came close to the car and opened fire, shooting through a car window. Two officers were injured. Their life is not in danger now," Russian Guard spokesman Valery Gribakin told Interfax on Thursday.

The attacker was killed with return fire, Gribakin said.

The injured Russian Guard officers were hospitalized, Gribakin added.

"In that situation, the Russian Guard members acted in accordance with the rules," he said.

A Russian Guard's press officer told Interfax that the officers had received necessary treatment.

"The officers have been provided with necessary medical treatment. They are in a Krasnodar Territory hospital," the officer said.

The incident took place on Krasnodar's Gagarin Street, he said.

A source earlier told Interfax that a car of the Russian Guard's extra-departmental guard was on standby near a secure facility when an unknown man approached it and opened fire, targeting people inside. The officers killed the attacker with return fire.

One of them has a wound to the arm, another one a gutter head injury, the source said.
