MOSCOW. Nov 30 (Interfax) - The visit of the leader of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, Bako Sahakyan, was of a private nature and violated neither Russian legislation nor any international agreements, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said.
"You know this visit cannot be viewed as anything but private, its status is obvious. And as it had precisely this quality, that of a private visit, it does not violate Russian legislation. Nor does it contradict existing international agreements or Russia's mediating mission in the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement," Zakharova said at a briefing on Friday.
"This is why the complaints against the Russian side that the Azerbaijani side expressed in its recent statement, are, in our view, groundless," she said.
Baku reacted strongly to Sahakyan's visit. The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said it was at odds with Moscow's obligations as a mediator.
