Zakharova urges U.S. to realize its role in Ukraine tragedy

MOSCOW. Nov 30 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova has described the United States Senate's resolution condemning "the provocative actions of Russia against Ukraine" as a "piece of paper" and urged Washington to realize the role it is playing in the Ukraine crisis.

"The future of Ukraine was sketched out on the orders of U.S. diplomats, officials, and representatives of security agencies. The government, the information policy, and, obviously, the policy on Donbas, among other things, were formed this way. So instead of approving another paper, I think they should realize the role their country and their officials have played in the tragedy of Ukraine and adopt some other statement. For instance, one on the role played by the U.S. Department of State in the events that happened in Ukraine in 2013-2014," Zakharova said at a press briefing on Friday.

The U.S. publication The Hill reported earlier that the Senate had approved a resolution condemning "the provocative actions of Russia against Ukraine." The resolution, authored by Republican Ron Johnson and Democrat Chris Murphy, gained unanimous approval. According to The Hill, the resolution "strongly condemned" Russia's actions and urged Moscow to release the detained Ukrainian sailors.
