Aerospace Forces successfully launch upgraded air defense antimissile, striking mock-up target

MOSCOW. Dec 3 (Interfax) - An air defense squad of the Russian Aerospace Forces has successfully launched another upgraded Russian anti-ballistic missile at Kazakhstan's Sary-Shagan range, the Russian Defense Ministry's information and mass communications department said on Saturday.

Air Defense Squad Commander Col. Sergei Grabchuk said during the event that "following a series of tests, the new antimissile has reliably reaffirmed its intended characteristics and successfully carried out the objective, striking a mock-up target with the required accuracy."

The missile shield is on duty with the Aerospace Forces and is intended to protect Moscow from the strikes of aerospace assault weapons and carry out tasks for systems of missile warning and space surveillance, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
