Central Military District base near Novosibirsk turned into separate helicopter regiment

NOVOSIBIRSK. Dec 3 (Interfax-AVN) - The army aviation base of the 14th Air Force and Air Defense Army of the Central Military District stationed near Novosibirsk has been transformed into a separate helicopter regiment, the district press service said in a statement.

"The transformation increased the number of servicemen and military hardware, which bolstered the regiment's combat power. The regiment operates modern attack helicopters Mil Mi-24P and transport-and-attack helicopters Mil Mi-8AMTSh. The regiment's pilots, engineers, and technicians have been trained to operate new aircraft," the statement quoted regiment commander Sergei Barykin as saying.

The Mil Mi-24P Krokodil and Mi-8AMTSh-V Terminator helicopters are built to destroy lightly armored hardware and troops, to provide landing and fire support to ground forces, to evacuate the injured, and to transport cargo inside the cabin and on a sling.
