Some 400 military policemen return to Chechnya after missions in Syria

MOSCOW. Dec 4 (Interfax-AVN) - The 58th Combined-Arms Army's military police squadron has returned to its permanent base in the Chechen Republic after performing missions in Syria, the headquarters of the Southern Military District said.

"About 400 servicemen of the Southern Military District have returned home after successfully executing special missions in the Syrian Arab Republic. They flew on Ilyushin Il-76 aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces' military transport aviation to the Mozdok airfield in North Ossetia," the headquarters said in a statement on Tuesday.

"Starting in August 2018, the military policemen executed missions to guard important facilities of the Russian military taskforce, ensured law and order and security of civilians in liberated populated areas, and organized escorts of humanitarian convoys and security during humanitarian actions," the headquarters said.

"Following the missions, the leadership of the military police thanked the personnel for the courage and great professionalism they showed outside of our homeland while guarding civilian facilities, escorting humanitarian cargo, and securing humanitarian corridors in de-escalation areas," the statement said.

Representatives of senior officials from the Russian Defense Ministry and the district, the local government, non-government organizations, fellow servicemen, families, and loved ones welcomed the arriving troops. "A celebratory rally dedicated to the arrival of the military police units from the Syrian Arab Republic will take place on December 7, 2018.
