Putin to reiterate support of peaceful settlement of Venezuela's political differences - Ushakov

MOSCOW. Dec 4 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin will reiterate Russia's support of the peaceful settlement of Venezuela's political differences at a meeting with Venezuelan President Nicholas Maduro, Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov said.

"It is expected that our support of the peaceful settlement of political differences in Venezuela will be reiterated at the meeting of the presidents," Ushakov said at a briefing on Tuesday.

"We are convinced that any external pressure on Maduro's government is counterproductive and does not promote the settlement of the situation or the attainment of stability in the country," he said.

All of Venezuela's problems should be resolved through the open dialogue of Venezuelan political forces with the observance of constitutional norms, Ushakov said.

"We also hope that the municipal elections in Venezuela on December 9 will go calmly, without any provocations or violations," he said.
