Martial law in Ukraine poses threat of large-scale combat actions in Donbas - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. Dec 5 (Interfax) - Martial law declared in Ukraine poses a threat of large-scale military activities in Donbas, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said.

"Not only does the martial law imposed at [Ukrainian President Petro] Poroshenko's initiative on November 28 on ten regions of Ukraine, including Donbas, go against the letter and the spirit of the Package of Measures, but it also poses a most serious threat of the resumption of combat actions," Zakharova said at a news briefing on Wednesday.

"A striking force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces can start large-scale combat actions along the entire contact line at any moment," she said.

There have been reports indicating that "Ukrainian security forces might resort to acts of provocation involving, inter alia, the use of toxic agents," she said.
