U.S. State Department rep's statement on Sochi, Astana Syria settlement formats destructive - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. Dec 5 (Interfax) - Moscow sees Washington's attempts to set unrealistic deadlines for achieving a political settlement in Syria as inappropriate, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said.

"We view these statements as unconstructive, to put it mildly," Zakharova said at a news briefing on Wednesday, when asked to comment on U.S. Department of State Special Representative for Syria Engagement James Jeffrey's remark that the U.S. sees no sense in continuing the Sochi and Astana processes to settle the conflict in Syria.

"Any timeframes imposed as a recipe are inappropriate in this case, because they are not only inefficient but also destructive," she said.
