New radar stations deployed on Kuril Islands to cover sea borders - source

MOSCOW. Dec 6 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia has deployed coastal radar stations on the Kuril Islands to cover the sea borders in the Pacific region, an informed source told Interfax.

"The Mys-1 stations monitoring sea targets and hydroacoustic systems deployed on the Kuril Islands are creating a complete zone for detecting and tracking all surface, underwater, and air targets," the source said.

The Pacific Fleet also has Bal and Bastion coastal missile systems, the source said.

"The measures taken will help hit aircraft-carrying and surface-action groups in the Pacific Ocean if necessary, if they try to break through to our coast," the source said.
