BERLIN. Dec 6 (Interfax) - Germany does not intend to participate in the escalation of the conflict in the Kerch Strait or "activate the military component," Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergei Nechayev said.
"It appears that our German partners understand quite well the motives of the current Ukrainian authorities. Berlin doesn't intend to get involved in the fulfilment of Kyiv's plans to escalate this artificial conflict, let alone activate the military component," Nechayev told Interfax when asked what signals Germany is sending to Russia following Ukraine's call for Germany to increase its naval presence in the Black Sea.
"Everyone understands what [consequences] this could entail for European security," he said.
"From our German colleagues, we are hearing calls to find a political and diplomatic solution to this situation," the ambassador said.
