Air defense forces deter massive missile strike in drill in southern Russia

MOSCOW. Dec 6 (Interfax-AVN) - Air defense forces stationed in southern Russia have simulated the destruction of over 150 hostile targets in a drill, according to the Southern Military District.

"The drill involved over 5,000 servicemen and about 2,000 pieces of weapons and military hardware," the district said on Thursday.

Almost 50 air defense and ECM units, as well as the Uglich missile ship of the Caspian Flotilla, were engaged in the practice.

Air defense and ECM units passed about 100 tests involving searching for, detecting, and simulating the destruction of small-sized, low-speed, low-flying aerial targets, and practiced detecting and destroying cruise missiles.

Joints operations "reveal new combat capacities of the combined-arms forces and improve the combat training of forces," the Southern Military District said.
