MOSCOW. Dec 13 (Interfax) - Russian Special Presidential Envoy for Syria Settlement Alexander Lavrentyev and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin met with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Wednesday to discuss the establishment of the Syrian Constitutional Committee and the situation in that country, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
On December 12, Lavrentyev and Vershinin "as members of the Russian interagency delegation involving representatives of the Russian Defense Ministry were received by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement published on its website on Wednesday.
"At the talks the interlocutors have thoroughly discussed developments in and around Syria. They focused on the objective of the soonest possible formation and launch of the Constitutional Committee in keeping with the decisions of the Syrian National Dialogue Congress and UN Security Council Resolution 2254," the statement reads.
