Issue of U.S.' strike drones must be resolved within legal framework of INF Treaty - Ryabkov

MOSCOW. Dec 13 (Interfax) - The U.S.' unmanned aerial vehicles with strike capabilities are violating the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty, and Moscow is hoping that this incompliance will be resolved within the treaty's legal framework, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said in a statement on the ministry's website on Thursday.

"A problematic issue remains unsolved. It concerns a number of unmanned aerial vehicles with strike capabilities put on service in the U.S. Armed Forces, while such weapons fall into the category of ground-based cruise missile as stipulated by the treaty," Ryabkov said.

"We find that this issue must be resolved within the legal framework of the [INF] Treaty," he said.
