MOSCOW. Dec 14 (Interfax) - The East Asia Summit (EAS) in Singapore was a "strategic breakthrough" for Russia, and Moscow devotes special attention to cooperation in this format to combat terrorism, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov told Interfax.
"Within the EAS, the Russian side consistently advances a unifying agenda aimed at maintaining stability in the Asia-Pacific Region and ensuring sustainable development and growth of cooperation in practical areas," Morgulov said.
"We give priority attention to cooperation in fighting terrorism, and our approaches in this sphere are met with understanding from our partners," he said.
Support for Russian initiatives was confirmed in the EAS leaders' statement "on countering the threat posed by foreign terrorists adopted in Singapore, as well as a similar document on combating the ideological challenges of terrorism, terrorist ideas, and propaganda, which was approved last year," Morgulov said.
"We are working with special energy within the EAS to improve the security architecture," he said.
Morgulov called the results of the Singapore summit "a strategic breakthrough that opens a large window of opportunities for us in the Asia-Pacific Region."
