Delivery of Sarmat ICBM to Russian Strategic Missile Forces to begin in 2021 - commander

MOSCOW. Dec 17 (Interfax-AVN) - The silo-based heavy liquid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missile complex Sarmat is being developed consistent with the Russian state armament program, Strategic Missile Forces Commander Col. Gen. Sergei Karakayev told the newspaper Krasnaya Zvezda.

"The delivery of the missile complex will begin in 2021 to regiments of the Uzhur missile division, which is currently armed with the complex's predecessor, Voyevoda," Karakayev said on the occasion of the Strategic Missile Forces Day observed on December 17.

"Drop trials of the missile have been successfully accomplished; preparations for launch have been mastered, the correctness of engineering solutions applied in the launching system and the silo launcher has been confirmed, and the serviceability of the engine has been tested," he said.

"Infrastructure is being built at the Plesetsk Cosmodrome for holding test launches. The test launches will begin soon, and their success will enable mass production of component parts," Karakayev said.
