MOSCOW. Dec 17 (Interfax-AVN) - The Rubin Central Design Bureau for Marine Engineering is preparing to design a non-nuclear submarine with air-independent propulsion, the head of Admiralty Shipyards, Alexander Buzakov, told journalists on Monday.
"We are hoping to be able to start implementing this project in the very near future," Buzakov said at a round table called "The Submarine Fleet Guarding Russia's National Interests."
"We are finishing building the long series of Project 636 submarines and have begun serially producing Lada-class submarines," he said.
"We hope these will be built in the form of a big series," Buzakov said.
"Testing of the first submarine, the St. Petersburg, is nearly complete. She is being trialed."
The round table was organized by the United Shipbuilding Corporation and the Russian Historical Society.
