MOSCOW. Dec 17 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian Deputy Defense Minister Col. Gen. Alexander Fomin held a meeting with UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Mark Lowcock in Moscow on Monday.
"The UN representative was informed about Russian Defense Ministry's efforts to deliver humanitarian aid to needy Syrian civilians, and creating conditions for the return of refugees to their homes they had before the war. Draw attention of the UN under-secretary-general to the disastrous humanitarian situation in some Syrian regions, especially at the Rukban refugee camp and the city of Raqqah," the Russian Defense Ministry told Interfax on Monday.
The Russian side asked the UN "to facilitate efforts to more actively involve the international community in rebuilding destroyed Syrian infrastructure," the Defense Ministry said.
"The meeting confirmed a mutual desire for constructive interaction to settle humanitarian problems in Syria. The sides agreed to continue contacts," the Defense Ministry said.
