FSB, NAC must fight global terrorism with new technology - Putin

MOSCOW. Dec 20 (Interfax) - The number of terrorist crimes in Russia has markedly decreased and the task of the Federal Security Service (FSB) is to solidify this trend and keep the situation under tight control, President Vladimir Putin said.

"You are fulfilling a multitude of serious tasks and key among them is the fight against international terrorism," Putin said at a formal event marking the Security Officer's Day.

Recently the number of terrorist crimes in Russia has "noticeably decreased" and the FSB's task is to "strengthen this trend" and keep the situation under constant tough control, he said.

"The FSB should improve its cooperation with other special services and implement, under the aegis of the National Antiterrorist Committee, new operative and technical means of fighting terror, taking into account its global and trans-border nature," Putin said.

Fighting extremism remains another important task, he said.
