Frigate Admiral Kasatonov begins sea trials

MOSCOW. Dec 21 (Interfax) - The frigate Admiral Kasatonov has begun sea trials, the Severnaya Verf company told Interfax on Friday.

"Project 22350's first serial frigate Admiral Kasatonov has gone for the first stage of sea trials to last until the New Year," a spokesperson said.

Currently, the delivery team is testing the ship's systems and devices in various sailing modes, the spokesperson said.

"In particular, [the team] will check the operation of the main propulsion unit, the steering and anchor devices, navigation equipment, means of communications. The team will trial life-supporting systems, including the ventilation system, air conditioners, fresh-, overboard- and waste-water systems. The frigate's seagoing properties will also be tested and all its mechanisms will be test-run."

The Project 22350 frigates are 135 meters long and 16 meters wide. The displacement is 5,000 tonnes. The maximum speed is 29 knots. The endurance is 4,500 miles. The crew consists of at least 170 men.

The ships are armed with the A-192 130mm artillery weapon, the Poliment-Redut surface-to-air missile system, and 16 Onyx and Kalibr anti-ship missiles. They are equipped with the Paket system and Kamov Ka-27 anti-submarine helicopter designed to counter submarines.

In 2018, the Severnaya Verf shipyard delivered the Admiral Gorshkov frigate and the Elbrus logistic vessel to the Navy. The shipyard is planning to deliver three more ships, the Admiral Kasatonov frigate, the Gremyashchy corvette, and the Vsevolod Bobrov logistic vessel, by the end of 2019.
