MOSCOW. Dec 24 (Interfax) - Russia's military infrastructure in the Arctic region is the most advanced and has no analogue in the world, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said.
"We continue gradual completion of our work on the Arctic islands. This involves restoring our airfields and creating most advanced infrastructure. I can confidently say that today no other country's infrastructure is as modern as Russia's," Shoigu told the ministry's public council on Monday.
The construction is taking place on the Franz Josef, Alexandra Land, Kotelny, Sredny, Wrangel, New Siberian islands and Cape Schmidt, he said.
Military construction on the Kuril islands continues, he said. "We are populating brand new buildings and structures on the Kuril range islands practically now, over the New Year," Shoigu said.
