Russian Embassy in UK expressed regret at May's words on 'Russian intrusion'

LONDON. Dec 25 (Interfax) - The Russian Embassy in London has expressed surprise at British Prime Minister Theresa May's words that her country's military protected it from "Russian intrusion."

"We are genuinely surprised at such wording. Untutored readers may get the impression that Russia attempted to breach the United Kingdom's airs pace or territorial waters. Such thing has never happened," the embassy's press officer said in a response to a media question, published on its website.

According to the press officer, "the British Ministry of Defense regularly advertises 'interceptions' of Russian military aircraft and ships, but every time it ends up being routine training missions in the international sea or air space or peaceful passages through the English Channel in compliance with international law."

"By the way, London has not made any official complaints to us about attempts to violate the British sovereignty," the press officer said.

As reported, in her Christmas address, May expressed gratitude to the British military for protecting British waters and skies "from Russian intrusion."

"It is regrettable that the British leadership is using even Christmas as a pretext for stoking anti-Russian sentiment," the press officer said.
