VLADIVOSTOK. Dec 25 (Interfax) - The Amur Shipyard will build two corvettes of Project 20380 for the Pacific Fleet, Pacific Fleet Deputy Commander for Armaments RADM Igor Korolyov told the press in Vladivostok on Tuesday after the new corvette Gromky raised the Navy flag.
"The Amur shipyard will build two more corvettes of Project 20380. They actually belong to the same project but have one distinctive feature. The u-shaped mast will be removed from their turret-and-mast assembly, while the front mast will have a slightly different shape and incorporate a multirole radar complex of the ship," Korolyov said.
"These ships are good as they are; their task is to fight subs and surface ships. They fully correspond to their class. We are thinking about reinforcing weapons of these ships at some point to alter their tactical properties a bit. I believe this is a matter of the future. Should the Navy command choose to do so, we will have a perfect group of uniform ships, which the Navy has not had for a long time," Korolyov said.
Amur Shipyard General Director Vladimir Kulakov said, for his part, that the corvettes would be built on time and commissioned in 2020 and 2021.
"It took more than five years to build the Sovershenny and the Gromky. This is an unacceptably long period of time. The third and fourth corvettes of the series, the Sergeant Tsydenzhapov and the Rezky, will be built by contracted deadlines, without any delays," Kulakov told the press.
"The third and fourth [corvettes] will have a better enemy-detection system. The third [corvette] will be commissioned in 2020, and the fourth in 2021," he said.
The Gromky corvette of Project 20380 joined the Russian Pacific Fleet in Vladivostok on Tuesday.
Ships of this type were designed by the Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau for operating in the short-range sea zone, fighting subs and surface ships of the enemy, and giving artillery support to amphibious forces.
The Gromky was taken to Vladivostok from the Amur Shipyard in late August for the final stage of trials.
