MOSCOW. Dec 26 (Interfax) - Moscow welcomes talks between the United States and Taliban (banned in Russia), according to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova.
"We can see that reality has forced Washington to step up effort towards ending the armed confrontation and launching a political dialogue between the warring sides in Afghanistan," Zakharova said at a press briefing on Wednesday.
She said she implied the talks involving representatives of the United States, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, and the Taliban movement that recently took place in Abu Dhabi.
"We welcome such efforts in this respect and believe that they should be transparent and take into account the interests of the people of Afghanistan and the neighbors - countries of the region experiencing threats coming from Afghanistan," Zakharova said.
