Russian military in Syria sees 11 attacks by militants from Idlib de-escalation area

HMEIMIM. Dec 28 (Interfax) - The Russian center for reconciliation of the opposing sides in Syria has recorded attacks launched by illegal armed units active in the Idlib de-escalation area.

The center's head, Lt. Gen. Sergei Solomatin, said at a press briefing on Thursday that in the past day militants had mounted attacks on Sandran and the Tell al-Tut and Tell Metwazi Heights in the Latakia governorate, Abu Dali (twice) and Zellakiyat in the Hama governorate, Qudehi in the Aleppo governorate, and also the neighborhoods of Suqqari (twice) and Zahabiya (twice) in the city of Aleppo.

"A total of 20,812 people had been amnestied by December 26, 2018" as part of the Syrian authorities' amnesty campaign for people who shunned military service, including refugees and former members of illegal armed units," he said.

A total of 19,000 people had been amnestied by December 21, Solomatin said earlier.

Refugees continue returning to their homes in Syria, Solomatin said. As many as 212,015 refugees had returned by December 26, he said.
